The cloud design along the left-hand side of this blog is about the only thing that is left of the short-lived, ill-fated Blue Sky Community Network, an attempt to create a Free-Net network within the province of Manitoba. Eventually, the project cratered due to too few people doing too much volunteer work, plus a hefty dose of political infighting and schisms. However, other FreeNets, like the national Capital FreeNet of Ottawa, survive...Peter Scott of Saskatchewan maintains a worldwide list of community networks and FreeNets.
In 1994, was a volunteer trainer for Blue Sky, holding Saturday morning sessions for the public on how to connect to and use the Free-Net at the Centennial (downtown) Winnipeg Public Library.
