An Actual Snippet of Conversation from the Life of Ryan Schultz

Ryan: "I've decided to teach myself how to read and write Chinese characters. It will keep my mind agile."
Sarcastic Friend: "You already have an over-agile mind. Why don't you take up vacuuming?"

I'm learning Cantonese oh yes I'm learning Cantonese I really think so

(with apologies to The Vapors)
Well, my books have arrived from amazon.com, and I've got a set of flash-cards on order. I'm learning Chinese. My ultimate goal is to be able to read Chinese characters, and to speak a little Cantonese (most Canadian-Chinese speak Cantonese so that's why I chose it).
Learning a new language gives you a new perspective on words and concepts, a different but parallel way of looking at things. That's another reason to learn Chinese, to look at things from a new perspective, stretch my brain a little bit.
(uh, and yes, I still need to run the vacuum. What's your point?)
